Festival Beer List 2016

Beers on the Bar for 2016 festivalAs every other year, we try to feature beers from some of the newest breweries.

There was a time in the past when that was often difficult. But, thankfully, 'the times they are a changin' (a nod here to Bob Dylan), and for the better!

There are more & more new breweries springing up, and this year we have beers from seven of the newest.

That's 14 new beers to sample! Make sure to try them as Iím sure you will!

But, don't fret, there will still be another 18, many of them favourites, to look forward to enjoying again. And, of course, 3 ciders to get those tastebuds tingling!

2016 Festival Theme - Battle of Jutland

Festival Glass Theme 2016

As anyone who has been to the festival before, you will know that each year the festival glass includes a different theme.

Festival Theme 2001

The very first festival in 2001, was to celebrate the 400 year anniversary of Bo'ness being designated a port in 1601.

It was also hoped it would be the starting point to getting Bo'ness Harbour re-opened.

Although there were plans to redevelop the harbour and surrounding area, unfortunately, due to the scale of the recession of 2007/2008, the project was shelved and the harbour never did re-open.

The festival was expected to be a one-off but luckily someone suggested giving it another go the following year and the rest, as they say, is history!

That set the stage and each year since there has been something to celebrate or commemorate about Bo'ness as the festival theme.

Last year it was to celebrate the opening of the John Muir Way, as it passes through Bo'ness, but this year it is a commemoration.

Few will have failed to notice that 2016 is the 100 year anniversary of the Battle of Jutland. It was a turning point in the First World War but many sailors lost their lives on both sides.

16th Bo'ness Real Ale Festival 2016

Plans for this year's festival is well under way and pretty well done. The theme agreed (more on that to come), and the glasses ordered.

It only remains now to decide what beers to put on the bar. That's generally left to about a month to go and the chosen brewers have their lists available. (There will be more to come on that one too!)

Another successful festival in 2015

2015 Festival theme - John Muir Way

2015 proved to be another successful event with the beers only just lasting out the night.

We like to think that after 15 years it is down to experience and good planning but we have been caught out before so....

But, there will be the usual wide selection of good beers, ciders and, of course, wines for the ladies not yet converts.

Festival dates for your diary in 2016

As said last year, if "everything goes well, the first weekend in October will be our fixed time from now on" and barring some real disaster that should now be the festival dates.

So, for 2016 the dates are:-

Bo'ness Town Hall

Friday 7 October, 5pm till 11pm

Saturday 8 October, Noon till 11pm

We all look forward to seeing you for either the first time or to welcome you back again, to enjoy some Beer, Burgers and Band.

How to find the Festival

Not far from Edinburgh

Bo'ness is approximately 18 miles west of Edinburgh on the shore of the Firth of Forth. It has a long and interesting history dating back to the Roman's with the Antonine Wall.
